Why the "Safety Strategy"
A two year trial by Queensland Health's Centre for Hospital Related Infection & Surveillance at Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital, a Major Tertiary Referral Hospital, concluded that a significant reduction in needlestick injuries (NSI) associated with the use of hypodermic needles could be achieved by, among other things:
- Increased awareness, through education, of the dangers associated with NSI's
- The use of syringes with retractable needles for all subcutaneous, Intramuscular and Intradermal Injections.
